Some of the third parties we disclose your personal information to may be located outside Australia. For example, some of our communications are sent to clients via MailChimp (who are located in the US).
Climate Friendly may verify an individual’s identity by submitting information provided by our Customers about their identity documents (or information our Customer’s provide about others with their consent) with the Attorney-General’s Department’s Document Verification Service (DVS) using Rapid ID an intermediary gateway provider registered with the relevant statutory authorities.
We may collect this information used in this process from the individuals directly or from third parties, including someone acting on your behalf, such as a parent or guardian, agent, or authorised representative.
Where the identity document(s) you require to be verified include information regarding other individuals (such as a Medicare card covering multiple individuals), it will be assumed that you have advised those individuals and obtained their consent to the disclosure. This information will only be used for the purposes of verifying your identity document(s) through the DVS. Any personal information of other individuals will otherwise be managed in the same way as your personal information.
The Attorney-General’s Department engages a third-party provider as a managed service provider for the DVS, who is required to adhere to the APP requirements and security standards to ensure the use and disclosure of personal information is limited to explicitly defined purposes including:
(a) for the purposes of the contract with the department; and
(b) to comply with any request under section 95C of the Privacy Act.
The Attorney-General’s Department is authorised to operate the DVS Hub for the purpose of verifying individual’s identities under the IVS Act.

Your personal information will be shared by the Attorney General’s Department via the DVS Hub with the government agency that issued your identity document to verify it against their official records. These agencies already hold your personal information as part of their official records, in line with their own privacy policies and legal obligations.
Digital Document Verification will not involve sending your details overseas.
Climate Friendly may send you communications about services, offers and information that Climate Friendly thinks may be of interest to you. We will only send these communications to you if would reasonably expect to receive them, or you have consented to receiving them. You may opt out or unsubscribe from receiving future communications from Climate Friendly.
Climate Friendly will securely store all the personal information you provide and take reasonable technical and organisational precautions to prevent the misuse, interference, loss, unauthorised access, modification or disclosure of your personal information. These precautions include the use of encryption technology where necessary, and limiting any identifying documents you provide to specific personnel only with a genuine need to access your personal information in order to register your carbon project.
If Climate Friendly no longer needs the information for any purpose we may use it for, we will take reasonable steps to destroy or de-identify the information.
Subject to certain exceptions, you may seek access to and correct the personal information Climate Friendly holds about you. Climate Friendly may ask you to verify your identity and to specify the information you require. We will try and make the process as simple as possible.
