Climate Friendly’s focus on driving decarbonisation at scale

Climate Friendly has always been a profit-for-purpose company tackling climate change by supporting farmers, environment organisations, agribusiness and Traditional Owner groups to store carbon by regenerating forests, growing new forests and reducing emissions through other land-based carbon farming methods.

Our driving purpose is to decarbonise Australia’s land sector, which currently accounts for about twenty percent of the nation’s greenhouse gas emissions.

The projects we support have stored more than 33-million tonnes of carbon in the Australian landscape across an area of more than 10-million hectares.

Our mission is to scale this up and establish partnerships by 2025 to store 150 million tonnes of carbon in the landscape.

Climate Friendly does not own or invest in property. We provide services to our project partners who own their projects and actively manage the land to achieve our shared regeneration goal.

Adamantem is an impact investor, committed to delivering outstanding financial returns alongside positive environmental, social and governance outcomes. Its investment in Climate Friendly has allowed us to grow our team from thirty to one-hundred people and scale up our positive climate change impacts.

Mitsui had a strong decarbonisation plan when it became a minority investor in Climate Friendly and our model has not changed since it invested. Mitsui’s investment does not give it any rights to ACCUs generated by projects supported by Climate Friendly.

Our team is clear on Climate Friendly’s purpose and mission and is united by the urgent need to scale up carbon farming in line with the International Panel on Climate Change’s call for the world to rapidly expand carbon sequestration.

To fulfil our mission and ensure our high-integrity Australian Carbon Credit Units support an economy-wide transition to net zero, Climate Friendly has developed a Buyer Integrity framework to assist partners in selling their ACCUs to companies with credible decarbonisation plans.

Using the Buyer Integrity framework, Climate Friendly screens all potential buyers of carbon credits based on their actions to reach net zero emissions, so our carbon farming partners can make informed decisions about where they sell their carbon credits.

Our Buyer Integrity Framework will help to promote emissions reduction at source. We recognise that carbon credits are only a part of the solution, and we have long called for science-backed, effective climate targets, robust government regulation and investment to drive emission reductions across all sectors of the economy.

It is critical that business is held accountable for their emissions, while robust transition plans are implemented. Carbon credits have an important role to play in this context.

Climate Friendly is proud of its team’s profound achievements and looks forward to continuing to play a significant role in tackling climate change, repairing nature and advancing reconciliation.
